Jordaan puts England match above PSL

FRIDAY, 9.30AM:

SOUTH African Football Association CE Danny Jordaan insisted on Thursday that players from top Premier Soccer League teams will have to play in the Bafana Bafana side in the match against England at Old Trafford on May 24.

Jordaan dismissed the claims of log leaders Manning Rangers and contenders Kaizer Chiefs to keep their players out of the England game, to make them available for the final games of the PSL season, scheduled for the same weekend. Chiefs and Rangers requested permission to withdraw Neil Tovey, Brian Baloyi and George Koumantarakis from the game.

Jordaan said it is within Safa’s rights to call on all these players, “and we would be crazy to do otherwise for what is an important landmark to the country’s soccer history”. Andrew Rabudla (Cosmos) and Clinton Larson (Rangers) have been called in to replace Orlando Pirates defender Gavin Lane, who was injured in a car accident, and Eric Tinkler, playing in the Italian league.
