FOLLOWING the resignation of five of the seven Independent Broadcasting Authority councillors and the suspension of CEO Harris Gxaweni, accounting firm Deloitte & Touche has been appointed to take over the authority’s finances and administration. And Bronwen Keene-Young, head of the IBA’s monitoring and complaints department, was appointed as the body’s acting CEO yesterday.
Gxaweni’s suspension and the resignation of the five councillors follows a report by the auditor general detailing widespread financial irregularities in the IBA. However, the councillors who resigned are still required to work a 12-week notice period before quitting their positions.
The length of Deloitte & Touche’s contract is unknown, though its mandate to establish the IBA’s financial status and ensure financial controls and procedures are developed is expected to take several months to carry out.
