SA squashes Aussies

THURSDAY, 11.30AM:

SOUTH African seeds Dawn Kaiser and Bryony Joscelyne were both victorious in the women’s section of the Macmed World Masters squash championship in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Kaiser beat Barbara Sanderson of England in the 55-60 division, while Joscelyne did battle with Jenny Clarke of Australia in the 45-49 division, to win 10-8, 6-9,9-10, 10-8, 9-4.

In the men’s section Trevor Wilkinson beat Dale Robinson of Australia in a one-sided match,9-1, 9-2, 9-1. Other South Afrcans through in the quarterfinals are Roy Plumstead and Pierr Roodt.

SA SNOW SKI CHAMPS THE South African snow ski championships will start on July 31 at Tiffendell ski resort in the Drakensberg mountains. The three-day championships will be made up of sudden-death play-offs, head-to-head events, and various runs and turns.

SA WINS BADMINTON SOUTH AFRICA beat Jamaica 4-1 in the Sudirman Cup badminton mixed team championships, held in Glasgow on Wednesday.

LAWLESS FOR NATAL THIRD-SEED Amanda Coetzer, of South Africa, beat Anne-Gael Sidot of France 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the Womens Tennis tournament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

BAFANA VISIT UNDERPRIVILEGED THE South African soccer team took an afternoon off training and visited an underprivileged area in Manchester on Wednesday, to support an English national development youth charter.
