TV CHIEF QUITS JILL CHISHOLM, cheif executive of SABC television, will leave in June when her two year contract expires. Chisholm said she had never intended staying at the SABC longer than two years, and would continue to assist as a consultant.

NEW NATION CLOSES NEW NATION newspaper will publish its last edition on Friday, after a failed attempt to revive sales in the past six months. New Nation, one of the leading titles of the opposition “alternative” press in the eighties, was at its strongest editorially in recent months, exposing such major news as the seven “death camp” farms, subsequently confirmed by the Truth Commission.

WITS V-C SHORTLIST THE University of the Witwatersrand named Professor Colin Bundy, of the University of the Western Cape, and Professor Francis Wilson, of the University of Cape Town, as the shortlisted candidates for the position of vice-chancellor, which becomes vacant at the end of the year. The candidates will be put through a selection process in June.
