Brilliant Lions win in dark

THURSDAY, 8.00AM:

THE British Lions put on a brilliant display against Gauteng at Ellis Park on Wednesday night, winning 20-14. Part of the march was played in semi-darkness, after the lights on the west side of the stadium succumbed to a power surge.

The Lions, defeated by Blue Bulls at the weekend, were desperate for a victory, and never showed any sign of giving up, despite quick scoring that put Gauteng ahead first. Scrumhalf Austin Healy and winger John Bentley scored brilliant tries in a game characterised by strong, running rugby. Healey slipped past his opposite number to duck past in the corner, and Bentley scored after a brilliant run more than half way down the field, beating seven defenders.
