Comrades rules on Nike no-nose

THURSDAY, 11.00AM:

COMRADES marathon runners who wear Nike branded nose strips during the run face the prospect of disqualification from the race. Runners were warned by Athletics South Africa and Comrades Marathon Association that no brand names or logos will be allowed “inside the competition area”.

Nike, manufacturers of sports goods and clothing, posted a nose strip to each of the entrants in the race, using the official Comrades entrants’ list illegally. Comrades officials have been told to notify all runners before the race that they may face disqualification for wearing the nose strips.

The disqualification will be in line with the rules of the International Amateur Athletic Federation.
