THE Castle Premier Soccer League awards ceremony was held in Johannesburg on Tuesday night. League leaders Manning Rangers, who were awarded R500 000 for their performance, were given a further R50 000 for being the most impoved team of the season.
Umtata Bush Bucks star Wilfred Mugeyi walked away with the most honours and R120 000, after being named the player of the season, player’s player of the season and leading goalscorer of the season. Mugeyi bettered Rangers top scorer George Koumantarakis’ performance by five goals, to notch up 22 goals in the League season.
Three soccer teams announced disappointing news for fans on Tuesday night: Kaizer Chiefs management and directors decided to cancel the Amakhosi tour of China; Mamelodi Sundowns said their plan to tour Slovakia later this year has fallen through, and Jomo Cosmos has cancelled their series in the Seychelles.
