IFP-ANC TALKS The second round of peace talks between the ANC and IFP began in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday. The talks are a continuation of the June 8 talks, when the ANC presented its proposals to the IFP, offering a senior national government post to IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi and a special amnesty package for KwaZulu-Natal. The IFP has released no official response to the offer.

TRC-NP SHOWDOWN THE Truth and Reconciliation Commission has asked the National Party for an urgent meeting to resolve their ongoing row. The NP has demanded the resignation of deputy chairman Alex Boraine and an apology from chairman Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and has threatened court action against the TRC. The TRC held a special meeting on Thursday morning to discuss the Nat threats and demands.
