ASA elects office-bearers

MONDAY, 11.15AM:

LEONARD CHEUNE retained the presidency of Athletics South Africa (ASA) at the national body’s annual meeting at Esselen Park on Saturday.

This was after the Western Province Athletics boss, Alex Marshall, withdrew his nomination for president and vice-president, leaving Cheune unopposed for the top position. The Gauteng North chairman, Stix Stiglingh, won the vice-president’s seat ahead of the former incumbent, John Ncinane. Ncinane was voted onto the board as an additional member along with Simon Dlamini.

HERBERT HURDLES SOUTH AFRICAN Llewellyn Herbert finished second in the 400m hurdles at an International Amateur Athletics Federation meeting in Lille in France on Sunday, with a time of 48,54s. Namibian Frankie Fredericks won the 100m sprint in 9,95s.

CURRIE CUP GRIQUALAND West beat Border 13-5 in their Bankfin Currie Cup rugby clash at a wet, windy Basil Kenyon Stadium in East London on Sunday.
