Lions consider citing after Welkom match

WEDNESDAY, 10.15AM:

BRITISH Lions manager Fran Cotton complained of bad refereeing, stampings and a bad pitch after their game against Northern Free State on Tuesday. The Lions won 67-39.

“There were two or three stampings on the head which is totally unacceptable and there were several other incidents which put our players at risk,” said Cotton. He said he is considering citing certain Northern Free State players after watching a video of the game. “No touring team of our standard should have to put up with a referee like that on a pitch that was bone-hard,” he said.

Northern Free State manager Pote Human reacted to Cotton’s allegations by saying Cotton has a bad attitude. “I cannot believe his comments. No one was penalised by the referee for foul play,” he said.

Northern Free State: Tries by Michael Ehrentraut, Otto Wegner, Albertus van Buuren, Eric Herbert and penalty try, four conversions and two penalties by Eric Herbert.

British Lions: Tries by Tony Underwood (3), Simon Shaw (2), Neil Back, Kyran Bracken, Mark Regan and Tim Stimpson (2), seven conversions and penalty by Tim Stimpson.
