Tinkler to English league side

WEDNESDAY, 9.30AM:

The hard-tackling midfielder and South African international, Eric Tinkler, signed for the newly promoted English premier league soccer side Barnsley earlier this week. Tinkler, who joined Italian Series A Cagliari last year after a successful African Cup of Nations, said that to play in England is a dream come true. Barnsley paid 650 000 for Tinkler.

Meanwhile, Brazilian star Wanderley Fonseca is in South Africa to train with Moroka Swallows for six months. “We were told that Fonseca is a marvellous player to watch and it is for this reason that we have asked him to come and train with us, ” said Aubrey Tau, the Swallows PRO.

Cape Town Spurs beat Sundowns and Bush Bucks to secure the services of Zimbabwean striker Ian Gorowa — he played for Dynamos in Harare and is said to be a dangerous player. Spurs managing director John Comitis said: “We expect him to come back to South Africa on July 12 so that he can join rest of the team when they prepare for the new season.”

South African goalkeeper Andre Arendse is on the verge of signing for a top Dutch team, Feyenoord of Rotterdam. Arendse is currently in Hong Kong playing in the World XI side.
