DISCRIMINATION RULING APPEALED The ministers of justice and public service and the Public Service Commision will appeal the High Court ruling that the justice department’s affirmative action policy constituted unfair discrimination against white males. Justice JDM Swart has granted leave to the appeal on Thursday. Swart earlier declared the apppointment of 30 state attorneys invalid because only blacks and women were appointed.

TAXI WARS EIGHT commuters were injured on Wednesday evening when a hand grenade was thrown into the Faraday taxi rank in downtown Johannesburg. Bystanders chased the three perpetrators but were unable to catch them. Earlier in the day, one person was killed and three seriously injured when five gunmen armed with AK-47s opened fire on a taxi rank near the Benoni railway station.
