TUESDAY, 10.30AM:
ENGLISH Second Division soccer side Fulham have snapped up South Africa’s number one goalkeeper Andre Arendse for an undisclosed amount. Fulham signed Arendse from Cape Town Spurs.
“The club has apparently been highly impressed with Andre and he in turn feels that with Fulham aiming at a spot in the English Premier League, he has made a right choice,” said Gary Bloomberg, a lawyer who negotiated the deal. Arendse has represented South Africa in 29 internationals, and last week played for the Fifa All Stars side against an Asian Selection in Hong Kong. Arendse stayed over in London to sign the deal.
Bafana Bafana manager Glyn Binkin said it was a big step forward for the South African goalkeeper. “Andre is joining a club that has nurtured some of the great players, like our own Budgie Byrne. Fulham have grand plans and it is good signing for them to have a player of Andre’s quality in their side,” said Binkin.
