Safa upholds Warriors’ relegation

FRIDAY, 10.00AM:

MICHAU WARRIORS’ hopes of staying on for yet another year in the elite Premier Soccer League were dashed on Thursday, when the South African Football Association (Safa) appeal board dismissed Warriors’ appeal against a disciplinary commitee’s decision to award two league points to rivals AmaZulu.

The disciplinary committee last month ruled that AmaZulu be awarded two points from their drawn match against Umtata Bush Bucks after AmaZulu protested that Bush Bucks fielded two players who failed to produce identity cards.

The two points means that AmaZulu remain in the Premier league and Warriors will be relegated to the first division.

Warriors — who have been having financial problems since their owner, Michau Huisamen, was arrested in United Kingdom, allegedly for smuggling a large amount of dagga in his private jet — vowed to take the matter further.
