Sundowns worry as Chukwu stays home

THURSDAY, 1.00PM:

MAMELODI Sundowns and Nigerian striker Raphael Chukwu has not arrived for pre-season training. Sundowns coach Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala said he knows that Chukwu is still in Nigeria and, contrary to the club’s code of conduct, has extended his leave.

“This is unacceptable and I am going to have strong words with him when he finally turns up,” said Tshabalala.

Tshabalala also revealed that Namibian goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo will start training with Sundowns next week. Kanelelo will play for Namibia against Gabon in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match in Gabon on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana midfielder and SuperSport United captain Thomas Madigage has returned to SuperSport United after failing to secure a contract with German first-division side Duisburg. Madigage, who was in Germany for a month for talks with the club, confirmed that the German deal went sour.

United’s coach Shane McGregor said it is a blessing in disguise for Madigage to be back with his club as this season they will be challenging for the League title. “Now I’m confident that we will be up there with the best, come end of the season,” he said.
