Gauteng Lions make changes

FRIDAY, 11.50AM:

GAUTENG LIONS have made changes to the team that will play against Griquas in a Currie Cup fixture at Ellis Park stadium on Sunday. Louis van Rensburg has been drafted into the team. Armand du Preez replaces Wilnand Vlok and Joggie Engelbrecht will replace Joe Gillingham, who is doing duty for the Springboks.

BOWLED OVER SOUTH AFRICA’S Neil Burkett beat Namibia’s Douw Calitz to maintain his unbeaten run in the African States bowls tournament at Jwaneng in Botswana on Thursday. The South African fours team was eliminated in the tournament on Thursady morning and the women are still leading in their section with six points.

PENDA ON AUCTION WITBANK ACES boss Veli Mahlangu said on Thursday that Cameroon striker Jean-Paul-Bang-Penda will go to the highest bidder. Jomo Cosmos made an offer of R150 000 plus a 50% share if the player is transfered to an overseas club. Mahlangu said they will have to wait for Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza to return from overseas because he had also shown interest in the player. “I have received offers from Sundowns and Orlando Pirates for the player. If this particular club [Cosmos] is prepared to bid for the player, then that is fine,” said Mahlangu.

SEPENG, COACH MAKE UP OLYMPIC silver medallist Hezekiel Sepeng and his coach JP van der Merve have sorted out their differences and are ready to work together. “We’ve sorted it out. Everthing is okay,” said Sepeng on Thursady.

HOCKEY SQUAD FOR RUSSIA THE SA men’s hockey selectors have named the squad to tour Russia at the end of the month.
