Audit commission backs Kluever

MONDAY, 11.00AM:

The audit commission, the parliamentary oversight committee overseeing the work of the auditor-general, has come out in support of auditor-general Henri Kluever in the row between him and Mineral and Energy Affairs Minister Penuell Maduna.

The African National Congress-led commission, chaired by ANC MP Barbara Hogan, expressed unqualified support for the integrity and competence of Kluever and his staff. The commission also suggested Maduna’s public attack on Kluever falls foul of National Assembly rule 99 and section 181 of the Constitution.

Meanwhile, ANC parliamentary chief whip Max Sisulu at the weekend said he will intorduce a motion this week calling on the public protector to investigate Maduna’s allegations that Kluever was involved incovering up massive theft from the Strategic Fuel Fund.
