SOUTH AFRICA’S Ernie Els finished on 290, 10-over-par in the final round of the PGA Championships in Mamaroneck on Sunday. He was consoled however, by a six-iron 185-yard hole-in-one that hit the green once and rolled into the cup.
“I lost my game on Friday. I kind of lost it on the greens that carried over, I wasn’t swinging well,” said Els. He made a six-over 76 on Thursday and a four-over effort on Friday.
Els said he played a lot of Golf this year and maybe he was fatigued. “Maybe my brain got tired,” he said.
The tournament was won by Davis Love, who finished the final round with a four-under 66, to take hgis final tally to an 11-under 269. Five strokes behind him was British Open champion Justin Leonard.

CAMEROON TO FRANCE CAMEROON became the fifth African country to qualify for next year’s World Cup Finals in France after beating Zimbabwe 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying match in Harare, Zimbabwe on Sunday. Cameroon is also the first African country to reach three consecutive finals. Patrick M’boma scored a brace in the second half to book a ticket for the Indomitable Lions. They join the other four qualifiers — Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco and South Africa — for the finals next June.
FOUR-NATIONS SCRAPPED SOUTH AFRICAN Football Association CEO Danny Jordaan revealed on Sunday that the annual Four Nations Cup has been put on ice and will have to be reviewed. “It is best shelved right now. We are playing France away on October 11 and Nigeria still have not replied to our invitation,” said Jordaan.
SA WOMEN BEAT ENGLAND SOUTH AFRICA’S women’s cricket team beat England by two wickets to square the one-day international series 1-1 in Tauton, England on Sunday. England batted first and scored 253/5 in 50 overs and South Africa replied with 254/8, making the last run on the final ball of the innings.
