SA junior athletes second in African champs

MONDAY, 1.00PM:

THE Third African Junior Athletics Championships ended on Saturday with host, Nigeria, leading with 21 medals, made up of seven gold, six silver and eight bronze.

South Africa placed second with seven medals, including five gold, one silver and one bronze. Kenya followed with seven medals — four gold and three silver. Eighteen African nations took part.

While the East and North Africans excelled in the long-distance races, Nigeria dominated the sprints, including the 100 metres.
