Jannie De Beer joins the 1 000-point club

TUESDAY, 1.30PM:

SPRINGBOK flyhalf Jannie de Beer has become the 22nd South African rugby player to join the 1 000-point scorers club. His 26 points against Australia on Saturday took his points tally in first class rugby to 1 023.

De Beer, who has scored 77 points, including two tries, in his last five Springbok appearances, gained his junior Springbok colours in 1992 against the All Blacks. The following year he toured Britain with the South African Barbarians and represented South African Development and student teams.

De Beer has scored 639 points for the Free State since making his debut in 1990. In 1995 he played 10 times for Transvaal and scored 114 points.
