Sarfu placates sponsors

WEDNESDAY, 1.30PM:

SOUTH African Rugby Football Union CEO Rian Oberholzer and four principal rugby sponsors — M-Net, Bankfin, Winfield and Vodacom — met at Ellis Park Stadium on Tuesday, following claims of lack of transparency on the part of the union.

The meeting was called after the sponsors delivered a letter to Sarfu president Louis Luyt asking for transparency, openness and accountability within the sport.

After the meeting, sponsors released a statement that read: “Further to a meeting between Sarfu’s CE, Rian Oberholzer and the principal sponsors, Mr Oberholzer confirmed that Sarfu are intent on formally reponding to any allegations submitted by the Ministry of Sport to it in relation to its administration in a timeous, open and transparent manner. The sponsors endorse this position.”

Oberholzer will report back to a Sarfu executive on Wednesday morning.
