Frankie’s sorry we lost

MONDAY, 11.35AM:

NAMIBIA’S Frankie Fredericks criticised the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Friday’s decision not to award Cape Town the 2004 Olympic Games.”I’m very disappointed and sad,” he said after beating Donovan Bailey of Canada in a Grand Prix 100m final in Tokyo on Saturday.

He said: “I can’t see any other African countries comming to bid for the Olympic Games.”

Fredericks was reacting to IOC’s decision to award the Olympic Games to Athens. Athens beat Rome, Cape Town, Stockholm and Buenos Aires, polling 66 votes. Cape Town was eliminated in the third round.

“I don’t think we will come back in bidding for 2008 and 2012. There is no way we can spend that kind of money every time,” he said.
