Six changes to Gauteng Lions Currie Cup squad

TUESDAY, 12.00NOON:

GAUTENG Lions utility back Hennie le Roux will be in the team to play Northern Free State in a Bankfin Currie Cup match in Welkom on Friday night. Le Roux last played for the Lions against Mpumalanga Pumas on July 13, when he left the field with a thigh injury.

Le Roux is one of the six changes — with two positional changes — to the team that hammered neighbouring Gauteng Falcons 79-32 at the weekend. Lions coach Dawie Snyman has called uncapped Lions under-21 lock forward Gerrie Theron; Andre Vos moves from flank to the back of the scrum; Bruce Theron switches from lock to Vos’s place in the flank. There are also two changes in the front line — Balie Swart comes at loosehead for Roberto Grau and Faan Muller will start ahead of Kapstok van Greuning.

Springboks Joost van der Westhuizen and Marius Hurter have been included in the Northern Transvaal team to play against Griqualand West in a Currie Cup match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday. Hurter replaces Piet Boer at tighthead and Van der Westhuizen, who was rested for the game against North-West, comes in for Conrad Breytenbach. Fullback Kosie Alberts returns to the team in place of Thys Potgieter.
