WEDNESDAY, 1.30PM:
GAUTENG LIONS coach Dawie Snyman has again delayed the announcement of the squad to do duty against Free State in a Bankfin Currie Cup match at Ellis Park on Saturday. Snyman said injuries sustained in training have forced him to hold off naming the team.
“There is absolutely no need to put ourselves under any pressure by rushing into selecting the team,” said Snyman. “I am quite happy to just mark time and see how the injury situation pans out in the next 24 hours.”
Snyman was referring to flyhalf Louis van Rensburg, who took a knock on the head at Tuesday night’s training session. Skipper Balie Swart is also battling with an elbow injury, Andre Vos has a damaged finger, and hooker James Dalton has a bout of flu.
Meanwhile, Springbok lock Hannes Strydom has been ruled out of the game against the Free State Cheetahs after he broke down during a fitness test at Rand Afrikaans University on Tuesday.
“It’s no good. I wanted so much to play but this is impossible. The ankle is painful and tight,” said Strydom.
