Mofokeng retains title

MONDAY, 1.30PM:

SOUTH AFRICAN junior heaveyweight champion and International Boxing Federation intercontinental champion Jacob Mofokeng succesfully defended his title when he stopped challenger Isaac Mahlangu in the fourth round of their scheduled 12-round fight at Morula Sun on Sunday.

Mofokeng made his intentions known early in the first round when he caught his opponent with his powerful jab.

Mahlangu beat the count two times before referee Clement Martin stopped the fight. Mofokeng landed his left hook against Mahlangu’s head and the challenger went down for the first time but beat the count and came back. The champion sensed that Mahlangu was hurt and landed his left hook again and the challenger went down again. Mofokeng forced the challenger to the corner and the referee stopped the fight.

Meanwhile, South African welterweight champion Lawrence Ngobeni stopped his French opponent in the second round of their scheduled 10-round fight at Morula Sun on Saturday.
