Revamp keeps M&G in the lead

As part of an ongoing revamp in order to make the Mail & Guardian the best possible newspaper, we are making a number of bold changes.

From November 1, a new Inside Economics section is being introduced to replace the Business section.

It will focus on macro-economic trends and markets locally and internationally; the big debates between the government, business and labour; and the issues around globalisation and the struggles to overcome poverty in the Third World, especially on our own continent.

Business news – especially the issues around labour, black empowerment and the political struggle over the economy – will be incorporated into the main news section to bolster our existing coverage. Several other exciting new sections will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Shaun de Waal, an M&G veteran, has been appointed arts and literary editor. Ferial Haffajee, who has extensive experience in print and broadcast journalism, becomes the new media editor. And Lizeka Mda, formerly the deputy editor of Tribute magazine, has joined the team as special features writer.
