Pirates, Downs drop points

THURSDAY, 8.40AM:

VAAL Professionals beat Mamelodi Sundowns in their Premiership match at Iscor Stadium on Wednesday night. Pros were 2-0 up at half time.

New Bafana Bafana midfielder Jabu Mnguni was inspirational in midfield and took the game to the visitors. Joseph Chikoti scored the opening goal in the 29th minute and Neil Jansen increased the score three minutes before half time.

Sundowns came back strongly in the second half, but poor finishing by strikers Raphael Chukwu, Joel Masilela and Kenny Niemach denied them goals. Sundowns defender Dan “Dance” Malisela outjumped every one to head the ball home in the 72nd minute after a corner kick by Joel “Fire” Masilela.

In another PSL game at FNB Stadium Orlando Pirates went down 1-0 to Supersport United. This is a sweet revenge for United as Pirates ousted them out of the Rothmans Cup by beating them 1-0 at home and away.

Chicco Lawrence scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute when he blasted a powerful shot past Pirates goalkeeper William Okpara. The win moved United from 12th spot on the PSL log to ninth.
