Doc Khumalo inspires Chiefs win over Wits

FRIDAY, 9.10AM:

DOCTOR Khumalo made his comeback debut for Kaizer Chiefs and inspired the “Phefeni Glamour Boys” to a 2-0 victory over Wits University in a Premier Soccer League match in front of close to 25 000 spectators last night.

The game was won in the middlefield where Khumalo did all the running and passing. Chiefs went ahead in the fifth minute when a Sizwe Motaung free kick was headed in by Wits midfielder Oscar Mohohlo. The second goal was scored by Thabang Lebese after connecting a Robinson Muchichwa cross in the 13th minute.

Wits never threatened Chiefs but came close to scoring on numerous occasions. Wits’ only chance of the game came in injury time when Nicky Shaw’s pile-drive was saved by Brian Baloyi.

Chiefs could have won by a wide margin but poor finishing by strikers Mark Williams, Thembinkosi Biyela and later Liberty Masunda denied Amakhosi some more goals. Williams missed a penalty after Neil Winstanley handled a Lebese shot.

Martin Zwane made his debut for Chiefs when he replaced Jacob Tshisevhe early in the second half. Fans bayed for coach Paul Dolezar’s blood when he substituted Khumalo with Daniel Sekhoto instead of Williams. Chiefs are now lying second on the log after 12 games. RUGBY
