NZ holds SA to 174/9

THURSDAY, 1.00PM:

SOUTH Africa were restricted to 174 for nine by New Zealand in their one-day cricket international at the Bellerive Oval in Australia on Thursday. Tight bowling and good fielding by the Kiwis made things difficult for the visitors.

South Africa started brightly, but two dismissals from direct-hit run-outs spelled danger for Hansie Cronje’s men. It was all smiles for the Kiwis as Chris Cairns, Chris Harris and Shayne O’Connor took two wickets each.

Jacques Kallis was top scorer with 45, while Lance Klusener contributed 37 and Pollock 31. Kallis and Pollock’s partnership produced only 50 runs late in the innings.
