Tiger mauls Els in Thailand

MONDAY, 12.30PM:

TIGER Woods’ prediction came true when he beat Ernie Els in a play-off for the Johnnie Walker Classic title after being eight shots adrift entering the last day.

Woods shot a 65, and then went on to beat Els on the second hole of a play-off with a 15-foot birdie putt. Woods had earlier said that he would win the tournament, even when he was trailing Els by 11 shots after two rounds.

After three unspectacular rounds at the Blue Canyon club, Woods carded an amazing seven-under 65, as Els lost it at the end to play Woods after both players had finished on 279, nine-under.

Woods sank his birdie on the 18th after popping in a five-foot save in the first play-off round on the same hole. Woods’ birdie earned him a cool 133 330 ($222 000).

World number three Els acknowledged that he had lost it in the final round, saying that the 16th, where he three-putted in regulation play, proved to be the turning point.
