Pakistan demolish Griquas

WEDNESDAY, 1.00PM:

THE Pakistani touring side destroyed a hapless Griqualand West by 307 runs on Tuesday.

After resuming on 9/3 on the final day of their four-day tour match, Griquas quickly lost another wicket, but then Martyn Gidley and Wendell Bossenger managed to put up some resistance by scoring 32 runs in 48 minutes.

Gidley, however, lost his wicket for eight (off 66 balls, 108 minutes) and Bossenger was sent packing for 39 off 46 balls. Griquas fast bowlers Garth Roe and Adri Swanepoel were left the task of taking the second innings total into triple figures, with Roe scoring 22 off 27, and Swanepoel 10 not-out. Swanepoel’s innings comprised a four and a six.

Pakistani legspinner Mushtaq Ahmed spearheaded the tourists’ bowling attack, ending the match on 11/81 in 38 overs. Quickies Mohammed Akram and Waqar Younis were also in among the wickets, with Akram taking 2/5 off nine, and Younis picking up 2/21 off nine.

The tourists’ next match, also a four-day game, is against Border in East London on Friday.
