HELLENIC beat African Wanderers 3-2 at Kings Park soccer stadium on Sunday to ease their worries of relegation.
The defeat further compounded the woes of Wanderers, who are facing serious relegation trouble.
Hellenic were 1-2 down at half time, but managed to score twice in the second half without reply before a paltry crowd of fewer than 500.

DAVIS CUP SQUAD UNCHANGED THE South African squad that almost took the Davis Cup title last year will compete unchanged at the April 3-5 tie against Germany in Bremen. The SA Davis Cup selectors on Monday again placed their faith in Danie Visser as captain of the squad consisting of Wayne Ferreira, Grant Stafford, Marcos Ondruska, Ellis Ferreira and David Adams.
ZIM BATTLE AGAINST KIWIS ZIMBABWE were all out for a paltry 67 in their four-day match against New Zealand A. The Kiwis replied by scoring 149/4 at stumps on the first day.
DE REUCK FINISHES FIFTH TOM NYARIKI of Kenya won the seventh event of the IAAF World Cross Country Challenge on Sunday, edging out compatriot Paul Koech at the line in a thrilling sprint finish. Nyariki’s winning time was 29 min 30sec, just one second faster than Koech’s. In the women’s race South Africa’s Colleen de Reuck finished fifth.
SA THIRD AT RESCUE 98 THE Vodacom SA squad finished third in the World Lifesaving championships, which ended in New Zealand on Sunday. The New Zealand team was first, followed by Australia. New Zealand’s victory was controversial after a hotly debated last-minute change of venue for the surf events. SA star Stacey Bowley won six medals from her seven events, including a gold for setting a new world record in the 200m obstacle swim.
FOREIGNER WINS MIDMAR GERMAN freestyle specialist Jorg Hoffman became the first foreigner to win the Midmar Mile in its 25-year history this weekend. Hoffman won in 17 minutes 53 seconds, the second fastest time ever recorded for the 1660-metre crossing in a full dam.
NYATHI TO ITALY BAFANA Bafana ace defender Davis Nyathi is set to move from Swiss club St Gallen to Italian Serie B outfit Cagliari in July.
