‘The Beast’ tops in US

WEDNESDAY, 12.00NOON

VUYANI “The Beast” Bungu, South Africa’s international IBF featherweight champion, will share top billing with American IBF lightweight champ Shane Mosley in the United States in April.

Golden Gloves promotor Rodney Berman confirmed Bungu’s upcoming bout, saying: “Bungu has become such a force in world boxing that the Americans are literally queuing for his services.”

The venue for the fight and Bungu’s opponent will be announced later, but Berman did say the fight will be carried live by ABC television in the US, and locally by SuperSport.

Berman will also be sharing in a triple-header in April, topped by featherweight extraordinaire Prince Naseem Hamed in London. The bill will possibly feature South African Lindi Memani in a WBO title affair.

Meanwhile, all is set for two Golden Gloves showcases in South Africa this month. The Nashua Fight Night at the Carousel on March 10, and the Jumbo Cash and Carry “Night of the Tiger” world title double-header, also at the Carousel, on March 21.
