Sundowns leave Pirates behind

THURSDAY, 11.30AM:

MAMELODI Sundowns have a clear lead in the Professional Soccer League championships after beating Moroka Swallows 1-0 at the Odi Stadium on Wednesday.

Kenny Niemach scored the Brazilians’ only goal in the 55th minute after linking well with Oumar Barro. Barro, who is Sundowns’ new Burkinabe international, had the Birds’ defence in all sorts of trouble with his pace and excellent passes.

Orlando Pirates lost two valuable points in their bid for the championship when they were held to a goalless draw by Qwa-Qwa Stars at the FNB stadium on Wednesday night.

Hellenic caused a major upset when they beat Bush Bucks by 2-0 at the Athlone Stadium. Bradley August and Chrissando Webber scored for the Greek Gods in the 74th and 82nd minutes respectively.

Real Rovers eased their relegation worries when they shocked Jomo Cosmos 1-0 in a PSL game played at the Pietersburg Stadium on Wednesday night. Leslie Langa scored Rovers’ goal from a corner in the seventh minute.
