FRIDAY, 1.45PM:
THE new “Get Tough” policy of the Premier Soccer League’s disciplinary committee was demonstrated first hand to Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday night, as they were fined R77500 on two counts of bringing the League into disrepute.
The club has to pay R52500 within 30 days after admitting to both charges against them. Chiefs were fined R20000 for taking the field seven minutes late for the PSL match against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on March 6. The amount is payable in 30 days.
A further R50 000, R25 000 of it suspended for 12 months, was slapped on the club after Chiefs admitted to not controlling fans who hurled missiles onto the pitch at last Saturday’s second round Bobsave match against Orlando Pirates at the FNB stadium.
The immediately payable total was pushed up to R52 500 after the committee brought an earlier suspended sentence of R7500 into effect.
“We hope this harsh punishment meted out to Chiefs will be a warning to other clubs that we are not going to stand for any misconduct from clubs or their supporters,” said PSL PRO Andrew Dipela after Thursday’s hearing.
