A SUSPECT wanted in connection with a body found in a shallow grave near Richmond has died in while being pursued by police in a high-speed car chase. Police wished to question farmer Neville Garrod, 59, and his son Ian Wayne Garrod, after the body of their domestic worker, Tohobile Gili (24) was found in Byrne’s Village in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands on Sunday. The body was discovered by visiting relatives, who came across Gili’s foot protruding from a shallow grave near the farm. The body had a gunshot wound to the head, police spokesman Henry Budhram said.

Garrod and his son went missing on Sunday evening, after police launched a search for the two men. On Wednesday around 10.00am police confronted Ian Garrod, who fled in his car. During the chase that followed, Garrod collided head-on with a minibus taxi. The pursuing police tried to avoid the crash and collided with another car.

Several people were injured in the crashes. Garrod, critically injured, was taken to Addington Hospital where he died. Police are continuing to search for his father Neville Garrod, who is still missing, Budhram said.
