OWN CORRESPONDENT, Moroni | Wednesday 8.00pm.
UNITED STATES FBI investigators are searching for a Comorian Islamic militant as part of their inquiry into the US embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, sources in the Comorian capital, Moroni, said on Wednesday.
The suspect, Abdallah Mohamed Fadhul, 25, arrived in Moroni on August 14, seven days after the bombings which killed 247 people and injured more than 5,000 others. He left on August 21, on the eve of arrival of 20 FBI investigators. Several members of the suspect’s family were arrested and later released. According to one family member, Fadhul visited several Arab countries, including Sudan and Pakistan, where he received military training. Passports, rubber stamps and photos were seized from the suspect’s home, national police sources said.
The US investigators travelled to Comoros to follow up on a telephone number found at a Nairobi hotel where the bombing suspects stayed and which appeared to link the Comorian national to the plot.
Two suspects, Mohammed Saddiq Odeh and Mohamed Rashid Daoud al Owhali, have been transferred from Kenya to the US, where they were indicted on charges of murder and conspiracy.
