Rampant Stars pluck Swallows

QWA-QWA Stars thrashed Moroka Swallows 3-0 in a Castle Premier League match at George Goch Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Stars striker Goodman Mazibuko scored a brace in the 63rd and 76th minutes, while captain Sipho Khuse scored the third in the 82nd minute from a cross in the penalty box.

Swallows dominated the first half play and were in a position to win the game in the first half, but their shots were off-target.

Jomo Cosmos got the better of Orlando Pirates when they beat them 1-0 in their Castle Premiership soccer match at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The half-time score was 0-0.

The match was quite niggly, with referee Adiel Carelse bookeing a player on each side in the first half.

Godfrey Sadula of Cosmos was booked in the 15th minute, while Phiri Tsotedsi of Orlando Pirates for a late tackle from behind on Vusi Nchwango in the 25th minute.

In the second half Pirates coach Victor Banderenko brought in Phumlani Mkhize for Denis Lota who was not at his best. It was all to no avail as Manuel “Tico-Tico” Bucuane dummied two Pirates defenders before scoring after a good pass from Vusi Mchwango in the 64th minute.

AmaZulu missed their chance to move into third place on the PSL table when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Supersport United at the King’s Park Stadium in Durban on Thursday.

AmaZulu dominated the first half, but as so often happens to them in front of their home crowd, they allowed their opponents to score against the run of play.

Newcomers Dynamos had to claw their way from a 1-0 deficit to force a 1-1 draw with Cape Town Spurs in a lethargic PSL match at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Spurs’ scored through Andre Coetzee in the 21st minute, while Altheli Ratshvadelo levelled in the 70th minute from a perfect Vincent Sokhela cross.
