GRIQUALAND West remained firmly in entrenched in their position for a Currie Cup semi-final berth after a good 33-14 win over South Western Districts at Outeniqua Park in George on Friday evening.
The men from Kimberley led 21-9 at halftime.
The match was, however, not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests and it was only through bad kicking and handling errors that the Eagles lost the plot. Referee Jonathan Kaplan of Natal awarded 20 penalties and a free kick against SWD, compared to only two against the visitors.
Griquas’ scrumhalf Dave von Hoesslin, flyhalf Gaffie du Toit and right wing Robert Markram played exceptionally well, while the Eagles’ pack, particularly locks Botha Rossouw and Thys Stoltz, were outstanding in the loose.
