POLICE commissioner Suiker Brits confirmed on Friday that Colin Chauke, one of South Africa’s most wanted criminals who allegedly masterminded several multi-million rand cash-in-transit heists, is not among the nine suspects arrested in connection with a heist in Namibia this week.
Reports on Thursday claimed that Chauke was among the suspects arrested on Wednesday after an attempted high-risk R60 million heist at Karibib airfield, 180km north-east of Windhoek.
Brits, however, said that fingerprints and identikits of the suspects were received by the South African police on Friday afternoon, and that Chauke “was definitely not involved in the heist”.
Among the nine men arrested are three as yet unidentified South Africans, two of whom may be suspended policemen who are due to appear on charges of theft in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court next week.
The suspects appeared briefly in court on Friday, and the case was postponed until November 4 pending further investigation.
