This could be one of those rare concerts that goes down in history like the Amnesty International Concert in Harare in 1988. So if you’ve got some wheels and you’re in need of a restorative African musical adventure, then put that cabbie into first and head for lush Mpumalanga.
About 30 minutes past Nelspruit off the N4 highway you’ll find the Sudwala Caves where an exceptional musical happening will be taking place on Saturday night (October 24) starting at 7pm. Headlined the Friends Across the Border Project, the concert will be featuring jazz and traditional African musicians, vocalists and dancers from Mozambique, South Africa, Germany and the United States.
Known for its perfect accoustics, the performance area inside the spectacular cave seats over 400 people.
Performers include Gloria Bosman (vocals) and Herbie Tsoaeli (contrabass) from South Africa, Ze Maria (musical coordinator and soprano sax, flute and percussion), Celso Paco (drums and percussion), Dua (vocals) and Fofina (dancer) from Mozambique, Michael Kettner (drums) and Hugo Read (alto sax) from Germany and Alki Steriopoulos (keyboards) from the US.
FAB is a non-profit project with the objective of promoting ties of friendship and culture across the South African- Mozambican border. Proceeds from the concert will benefit programmes for Aids and youth in Nelspruit and Maputo.
