SA amateurs trounce Zim

SOUTH Africa’s amateur golfers on Wednesday thrashed neighbouring Zimbabwe 11-1/2 to 3-1/2 in their golf Test over the Modderfontein course.

Both teams fly to Chile on Thursday to compete in the world team championships for the Eisenhower Trophy in Santiago.

The South Africans went into the second day with a commanding lead of 6-1/2 to 2-1/2, then won five of the six morning singles to take their advantage to 11-1/2 to 3-1/2.

Trevor Immelman, who finished three under in a bogey-free round, trounced Zimbabwe’s Barry Painting 7 and 6, Dean Lambert was four under par Wednesday and beat the Zimbabwe captain, Michael Lamb, 5 and 4.

Jaco Olver ended on three under after beating Brendon de Jonge 4 and 3.
