KAIZER Chiefs once again overran their opposition on their way to the top of the Castle Premier League table when they beat Supersport United 4-2 at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Chiefs scored early in the match when Mark Batchelor blasted in a penalty after Siyabonga Nomvete was adjudged to have been fouled in the area by Ronnie Zondi.
United, however, equalised three minutes later when Michael Araujo scored from a free kick.
Chiefs made it 2-1 when Nomvete slipped a beauty to Thabo Mooki, who beat Perry Suckling with a diving header in the 17th minute. Araujo, however, again levelled the scores when he curled in a rocket from 25 metres out.
Chiefs started to assert their dominance in the second half when Nomvete made it it 3-2 in the 61st minute. Twenty-five minutes later Chiefs scored again after a period of sustained pressure when Doctor Khumalo slammed in a snorter to clinch the match.
Manning Rangers and Moroka Swallows deadlocked to a goalless draw in their Castle Premier League match at the George Goch Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday. Even though no goals were scoredthe match was still an exciting affair with both sides trying their best to score.
Qwa Qwa Stars looked in very good knick when they demolished Jomo Cosmos 3-0 in their PSL fixture at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Sunday. Sipho Khuse and Bunene Ngaduane, who scored twice, were the heroes for Stars.
King’s Park set the scene for scrappy 1-1 draw between AmaZulu and Wits University on Sunday. The students, who scored through Malawian Chance Gondwe in the fifth minute went into the break with a 1-0 lead over the home side. AmaZulu struck back in the 54th minute when Wits skipper Roan Maulgue scored an own goal after deflecting an AmaZulu cross.
Bush Bucks beat Seven Stars 2-1 in their Castle Premier League fixture at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday. Bucks took the incentive from the start, and gave the home side little respite. Stars’ Jeremy Jansen scored against the run of play early in the first half, but Patrick Mayo levelled matters in the 18th minute. The Umtata side went ahead in the 64th minute when defender Kaitano Thembo scored an own goal.
