WORLD BANK TRANCHE RELEASED

THE WORLD Bank is expected on Thursday to release a $170-million credit to Zambia for various programmes. Finance minister Edith Nawakwi revealed on Wednesday that the World Bank agreed to extend to Zambia the credit worth $170-million. Nawakwi said the Private Sector Reform and Export Promotion (PSREP) credit will be released in three tranches, the first of which is $65-million to be released on Thursday. She said the first tranche will go towards retrenchment of the work force at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines in accord with the sale agreement with Anglo. Nawakwi said she hoped other donors will follow suit and start releasing their pledged balance of payments support.
