A 1000km Mediterranean highway linking Africa and Asia will be inaugurated in June, Egyptian Reconstruction Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Soleiman said on Monday. “The highway will skirt the Mediterranean Sea, linking the north-eastern border town of Rafah and Sallum in the north-west,” Soleiman told the Egyptian news agency Mena. Rafah is Egypt’s gate to Asia through the Palestinian territories, while Salluum is a border post with Libya. Soleiman said that a road linking Rafah to Port Said has already been built and will be linked to another road that links the northern Mediterranean city of Alexandria and Sallum.
