THIRD REGISTRATION DRIVE SET FOR MARCH

THE Independent Electoral Commission is to hold its next and final phase of voter registration on March 5 to 7. As in its previous two phases, registration will start on a Friday and continue over the weekend until 5pm on Sunday. Chief electoral officer Mandla Mchunu said arrangements have been made for the registration of people in the “special category” at the IEC’s 438 municipal offices countrywide. This includes civil servants and military personnel who assisted with the registration, fishermen, pilots, truckers, sports people and journalists who work during registration periods. Door to door registration for the aged, disabled, hospitalised and pregnant women will continue until the end of February, he said. A cut-off date for registration has not yet been set.
