THE Western Cape branch of the Jubilee 2000 campaign to end Third World debt is to be launched in Cape Town on Saturday. Announcing the launch on Wednesday, Jubilee 2000 said interest on the South Africa’s apartheid debt last year was R42,5-million and is set to increase this year. ”This is almost double the amount allocated annually to health, and 60 times the amount needed to wipe out the fees owed by all the students in South Africa,” the statement said. Jubilee 2000 South Africa was launched in November as part of an international campaign, and has organising committees operating in Gauteng, KwaZulu- Natal, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State.
