President Nelson Mandela and his wife Graa Machel will visit Sweden next month at the invitation of King Carl Gustaf, the Swedish foreign ministry said on Wednesday. Mandela is also expected to visit Denmark, Finland and Norway. During his March 17-18 visit to Sweden Mandela will have talks with Prime Minister Goran Persson and other ministers, as well as leading businessmen. During the apartheid era, Sweden’s Social Democratic governments provided support to the African National Congress, many of whose members were frequent visitors to Stockholm. Persson is expected to visit South Africa later this year.
