OLYMPIC marathoner Abel Mokibe made his long-awaited return to road racing when he won the Pick ‘n Pay marathon in Bedfordview on Sunday. Mokibe finished only nine seconds outside of the incentive time clocking 2:23:09. He started the race with the intention of running an easy qualifier but the lack of commitment up front forced him to break away at the 22km mark and he never looked back. The women’s race was won by a novice again, this year Cindy Dockray pulled out in front, winning in 3:14:23 ahead of Sue Webber (3:15:01) and Comrades winner Rae Bischoff (3:15:59) who took third place and the first veteran prize.
