PHIRI DROPPED FROM SQUAD

SOUTH AFRICA has dropped reformed bad boy, Alfred Phiri, for an African Nations Cup qualifier against Gabon on February 27 in Mabopane. Turkish-based Phiri celebrated his return from a three-match ban after being sent off in the World Cup finals last year with the winner in a 2-1 Castle Cup Southern Africa championship victory over Botswana on Saturday. Defender Aaron Mokoena, 18, from four-time European Cup winners Ajax of Holland was retained after becoming the youngest player to represent South Africa at senior level in Botswana. The qualifier has been switched from FNB Stadium in Johannesburg to Odi Stadium, 50km north-west of Pretoria, to broaden support for Bafana Bafana.
